Low Voltage Architecture

Electrical System Design

Overview

Low voltage embedded systems design for an electric racecar designed by the University of Toronto Formula Racing team.

Context

The low voltage system is responsible for vehicle operation and data acquisition; it incorporates electronics (PCBs), hardware peripherals, and wiring harnesses.

Key Features

  • Power: Low voltage battery (8S5P, 15Ah) with centralized power distribution units.
  • Communication: 3 localized CAN (2.0A) buses separated based on message importance.
  • Shutdown Circuit: a circuit incorporating safety critical sensors to ensure vehicle operation in safe states.
  • Harness Design: wiring for seamless integration with vehicle electronics and reliable signal transmission.
